Dendera is the temple to show someone who has seen Karnak and wonders what the colour looked like. It was cleaned between 2005 and 2020 and the ceiling is blue and gold again.

Pickup at 07:30 (or 13:00). One hour north along the Nile to Dendera. The Temple of Hathor was built by the last Ptolemies and finished under the Roman emperors, and it is complete: the hypostyle hall with 24 Hathor-headed columns and the restored ceiling of the sky goddess Nut and the zodiac (the original zodiac is in the Louvre; a cast is in place), the sanctuary, the staircases up to the roof chapels where the New Year rites were held, the crypts with the famous "light bulb" relief, and the rear wall with Cleopatra VII and Caesarion.

Your guide has two hours inside with you, then a look at the Roman birth house and the sacred lake among the palms. Back in Luxor about 12:30 or 18:00.
