Alexandria was the capital of Egypt for a thousand years and the largest city of the Greek world. What survives is underground and along the sea, and the city itself, with its cafés and Corniche, is the reward for the early start.
Pickup at 07:00. The desert road brings you to Alexandria by 09:30. First the Catacombs of Kom El Shoqafa, a three-level Roman necropolis of the 2nd century AD cut into the rock, where Egyptian gods wear Roman armour. Next door Pompey's Pillar, the 27 m granite column of Diocletian on the ruins of the Serapeum.
The Roman amphitheatre at Kom El Dikka, the only one in Egypt, with the villa of the birds mosaics, then the Corniche to the Citadel of Qaitbay (1477), built with stones of the Pharos lighthouse on the exact spot where it stood. Lunch is fresh seafood at a restaurant on the harbour.
The afternoon is the Bibliotheca Alexandrina, the 2002 library and its museums, and a stop at the Montaza palace gardens or the Stanley bridge if time allows. Departure 16:30, back in Cairo about 19:30.

Yes. Every site named in the itinerary is included in the price. Optional extras are listed under "Not included" (for example entry inside the Great Pyramid or the tomb of Seti I) and are paid on the spot in Egyptian pounds or by card at the ticket office.
Yes when booked from Cairo, Luxor, or with the car or flight option: your own Egyptologist and an air-conditioned vehicle for your party only. The bus option from Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh is a shared coach with a guide on board and a private guide is available on request.
You book without a card. You pay on the day of the tour in EUR (or the equivalent in EGP or USD) to the guide, or by bank transfer in advance if you prefer. Flight options need the flight paid 72 hours before travel; we send a link.
Free cancellation up to 24 hours before pickup, 48 hours for tours that include a flight. Balloon flights cancelled by Civil Aviation for wind are refunded in full.

Beautiful Alexandria
Such a privilege to be back in Alexandria and to have Mohammed as our guide and Ahmet as our driver. We've covered the major sites of this amazing city today with professionals who have added so very much to our visit. All thanks to both gents.

The driver was able to navigate the roads of Giza and Alexandria to get us to our destination safely. I’m not sure the purpose of going to the library. Look through a fence at the Roman theatre, why didn’t we go inside? Catacombs were very neat but was quick. Why didn’t we get close to the citadel of Qaitbay versus standing…

Was für ein großartiger Tag! 😎 Schon die Fahrt nach Alexandria war absolut entspannt: Ahmed war ein ruhiger, besonnener und ausgesprochen angenehmer Fahrer, der die rund dreistündige Fahrt über die Wüstenautobahn souverän gemeistert hat.
