Khan El Khalili is fun with a guide and exhausting without one. This tour is about buying well: real papyrus not banana leaf, silver stamped 800 or 925, spices by weight, and a price the shopkeeper would give a Cairene.
Pickup at 10:00 or 16:00. The guide asks what you are looking for and plans the route. Khan El Khalili is a grid of specialised lanes: the goldsmiths' street, the coppersmiths, the spice merchants of Al-Muski, the lantern makers, the perfumers with essential oils sold by the gram.
In each lane the guide knows one or two honest shops, explains what is handmade and what is imported, and negotiates for you if you want. Outside the bazaar the tour includes a licensed papyrus institute (where you see how it is made) and an Egyptian cotton shop.
A tea at El Fishawy and, if you want, a stop at a galabeya tailor who can finish a garment the same day. Drop-off at your hotel with the bags.
