What to wear and bring on an Egypt day tour (with kids, in summer, in mosques)

The short list that covers the pyramids, the tombs, the mosques and the 20-hour bus day.

For any Egypt day tour: light long clothes, closed shoes, a hat, sunscreen, a scarf, your passport, cash in small notes, and water. Shoulders and knees covered for mosques and churches. A jacket from November to March for the early pickups and the balloon.

Clothes

  • Long light trousers or a skirt below the knee; they protect from the sun and pass at every mosque.
  • A shirt with sleeves; a scarf in the bag for the mosque and the wind on the felucca.
  • Closed shoes with grip: the tombs have wooden ramps, the plateau is sand and rock.
  • Winter mornings are 8 to 12 °C in Luxor before sunrise; a fleece for the balloon and the bus.

In the bag

  • Passport or ID: checked at museum gates and needed for flights.
  • Cash: small notes in EGP for tips, toilets and drinks; EUR for the tour balance.
  • Sunscreen, sunglasses, lip balm; the light is strong all year.
  • A litre of water per person (we carry more in the car).
  • A power bank; phones die from photos by noon.

With children

  • A stroller works at the pyramids and the museums, not in the tombs.
  • Snacks; lunch is at 12:30 or later.
  • A hat with a strap and a rash top in summer.
  • Tell us the ages; we plan the pace and the flight option if it suits.

Summer

May to September the guide starts the outdoor sites at opening time and moves the museums to midday. Two litres of water, a wet scarf for the neck, and a rest in the car between sites.

The bus day from the Red Sea

Neck pillow, a light blanket or hoodie for the air conditioning, headphones, and a change of top for Cairo. Sleep both ways.
