Since the Grand Egyptian Museum opened its Tutankhamun galleries, this is the day most guests fly to Egypt for: the pyramids and the boy king's 5,000 objects two kilometres apart. From Hurghada and Sharm El Sheikh it is a long day; from Cairo it is a comfortable one.
From Cairo the day starts at 08:00 with a private car. Giza first, while it is cool: the Great Pyramid, the panorama point, the Valley Temple and the Sphinx, about three hours with your Egyptologist. Lunch is at a local restaurant near the plateau.
The afternoon belongs to the Grand Egyptian Museum. The guide leads you up the Grand Staircase past the colossal statues, through the twelve main galleries in chronological order, and into the Tutankhamun galleries, where the golden mask, the nested shrines, the chariots and the thrones are shown together for the first time since 1922. Plan on three hours; the museum closes at 18:00 (20:00 on some evenings).
From the Red Sea by coach, pickup is between 02:00 and 03:30, the coach reaches Giza around 09:00, and the order is the same with the guide on board; you are back at the hotel around midnight. By plane, pickup is about 04:30, the flight lands in Cairo at 07:30, a private Egyptologist and car wait at the airport, and the evening flight brings you back by 22:00.
