Cairo from Hurghada: bus or plane? Costs, hours and what you actually see

The coach costs 125 EUR and takes 20 hours door to door; the flight costs 320 EUR and takes 17 with a private guide. Here is what each buys you.

A Cairo day from Hurghada by coach costs 125 EUR per adult and runs from a 02:00 to 03:30 pickup to a return around midnight, with about seven hours at the pyramids, lunch and the Grand Egyptian Museum. By plane it costs 320 EUR, starts at 04:30, ends about 22:00, and gives you a private Egyptologist and car in Cairo with about nine hours at the sites. Both include tickets and lunch.

The coach day, hour by hour

The coach collects the resorts from the south (Makadi, Sahl Hasheesh) or the north (El Gouna) first, then Hurghada town, and leaves the city around 03:30. Two rest stops on the desert road. Arrival at Giza between 08:30 and 09:30. The guide rides with you and starts the story on the bus.

At Giza: the Great Pyramid, the panorama, the Sphinx. Lunch. The Grand Egyptian Museum for about two and a half hours. Departure around 17:00; back at the hotel between 23:00 and 00:30.

The flight day

Pickup 04:30, the 06:30 flight lands at 07:30. A private car and Egyptologist wait at the airport. The same sites with more time (three hours in the museum), a better lunch, and a stop at the Khan El Khalili or a papyrus institute if you want. The 19:30 flight lands at 20:30; hotel by 22:00.

Who should take the bus

Adults and teenagers who can sleep on a bus, groups of friends, anyone on a budget. The day is long but simple: you sleep both ways and the guide does the rest.

Who should fly

Families with children under ten, guests over 65 or with back problems, anyone with only one free day who wants it to be a good one. The private guide in Cairo also means the tour bends to you: more museum, less plateau, a stop for a coffee with a view.

From Sharm El Sheikh

The same two options exist from Sharm: the coach through the Ahmed Hamdi tunnel (130 EUR, 22 hours) or the flight (330 EUR). From Sharm the flight is the stronger recommendation because the road is an hour longer each way.
