The plateau is 12 km from downtown Cairo and the whole visit fits in a morning or an afternoon. This is the tour for a first day, a layover, or a family that does not want a long day.

Your guide meets you in the hotel lobby with a private car. The drive to Giza takes 30 to 45 minutes depending on where you stay, and the guide uses it to set the scene: the Fourth Dynasty, Khufu, Khafre and Menkaure, and why the pyramids stand on this ridge above the Nile valley.

On the plateau you walk around the Great Pyramid (146 m originally, 2.3 million blocks) and, if you wish, go inside (ticket paid at the office, about 900 EGP). The car then takes you to the panorama point where all three pyramids line up, the classic photo, and where camel rides are offered if you want one. The guide negotiates a fair price for you.

The last stop is the Valley Temple of Khafre, the granite causeway and the Great Sphinx, 73 m long, carved from a single outcrop of bedrock. You are back at your hotel around 12:30 or 17:30, with the rest of the day free.
