Safaga is the Red Sea port closest to Luxor: 3 hours by private car on the Qena road. Luxor day trips leave at 05:30 (or from the cruise terminal on arrival) and return by 20:00. Cairo runs by coach or by plane from Hurghada airport, one hour north. Pickup surcharge 10 EUR per person.

The coach is the cheapest and the most common: pickup between 02:00 and 03:30, 5.5 to 6 hours each way with a guide on board, back around midnight. The flight takes an hour each way with a private car and Egyptologist in Cairo, pickup about 04:30 and back about 22:00. Families with small children and guests over 65 usually choose the flight.
By private car: pickup between 04:30 and 05:30, 3.5 to 4 hours to Luxor with a rest stop, the tour with your Egyptologist, and back at the hotel between 20:00 and 21:00.
Yes. Daily transfers between the Red Sea and Cairo or Luxor have run without convoy since 2016 in licensed vehicles with rested drivers; the guide carries a Ministry of Tourism ID.
