Luxor in one day from Hurghada: the hour-by-hour plan

Pickup at 5, the Valley of the Kings by 9, Karnak by 2, home by 8:30. What the day looks like and how to make it easier.

Luxor from Hurghada is a 15-hour day by private car: pickup between 04:30 and 05:30, 3.5 to 4 hours on the road, the Valley of the Kings, Hatshepsut, the Colossi, lunch, Karnak and Luxor Temple, and the drive back to arrive between 20:00 and 21:00. It costs 95 EUR per adult with an Egyptologist, tickets and lunch.

The plan

Make it easier

  • Sleep on the way out; the guide starts the briefing at the rest stop.
  • Ask for Seti I at the valley if you want one great tomb; the guide adds the ticket.
  • In summer the order is the same but the guide moves Karnak earlier and shortens Luxor Temple.
  • Soma Bay and Safaga guests have the shortest road (3 hours); Marsa Alam guests the longest (4.5).

Alternatives on the same schedule

Dendera and Abydos (via the Qena road, 115 EUR), the Seti I and Tutankhamun tombs with the Colossi (125 EUR), or the West Bank with Tutankhamun and the Valley of the Queens (110 EUR).
